Labiaplasty, or Labioplasty, is an elective cosmetic procedure. It is the plastic repair of the female labia either the labia minora, labia majora, or both.
What is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty reduction is the most common gynecologic procedure requested, and perfomed, among the gynecologic cosmetic procedures. The patients can be as young as in their 20s, or in their 50s or older, but Labiaplasty is a high demand procedure in the field of Gynecologic Plastic Surgery.
The most common complaint is that the labia, either minora or majora, or both, unilaterally or bilaterally, have enlarged overtime, becoming either thicker, or longer, or harder, causing a chaffing sensation when tight clothing is worn, such as exercise clothing due to spandex or nylon material, or becomes visible when wearing a bikini or a small underwear.
Sometimes, simply the cosmetic enlargement makes the patient uncomfortable when being intimate, or the patient just does not like to appearance of it, and wishes to have looking as it used to look before.
Many times, patients complaint that they mentioned this issue to their healthcare provider, and it was ignored, so they suffer in silence for many years.
Many patients do have some valid concerns about the above issues, and are found to have minimal or no issues, after proper evaluation and education. These patients are reassured about their condition, and go on with their lives, without suffering due to the fear of embarrassment, or similar, for not being able to have discussed theses issue with their doctor.
