Here at Skinsational Laser Center, in Providence, Rhode Island, we have been asked this question every week for several years! Most people are wondering about the real benefits, risks, and complications of Botox Cosmetic injections, as well as the cost of this amazing procedure.
I say amazing because, if properly indicated and properly performed by experienced injectors, Botox will relax the areas where it was injected, and smoothen the lines or wrinkles therein. This gives the individual a more relaxed, more youthful and rejuvenated look, and patients do feel good about it.
Botox is a synthetic purified protein derived originally from the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum, that causes the muscle tissue below the skin to relax after it is injected in the muscle tissue. Botox Cosmetic has been USFDA-approved since 2002, and it is a rather safe cosmetic treatment when properly done.
When the injector behind the needle injects it consistently and proficiently. Botox cosmetic is the number one non-surgical cosmetic procedure in the US and worldwide.
When it comes to safety, in addition to doing your homework and interviewing in-person with the doctor that will inject you, be wary of “low-cost Botox”, or cheap treatments. These Botox vials may be over-diluted so the vials can be used in multiple patients, and you may run the risk of diffusion of this diluted solution to undesired areas of treatment.
At Skinsational Laser Center, Botox Cosmetic vials are diluted, aka reconstituted, with 1ml of saline solution. Not 2, not 2.5, and not 5 mls: one ml. Therefore, when you are receiving the treatment, there will be no diffusion of the Botox protein to unwanted or undesired areas, which is the reason for those terrible side-effects that we’ve seen or heard in the media, which have tarnished the aesthetic world.
We consider your safety our top priority, and this is why this blog post was written: to educate you about Botox, so you can make more educated decision about what you are searching for.
Best wishes to all, and I look forward to seeing you in consultation at Skinsational. Be safe!
